Two 14-year-olds still missing after fleeing MTA in NJ

Two 14-year-olds remain missing after Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officers took their 17-year-old companion into protective custody at a Stamford, Connecticut train station. Brayden Morrissey and Dominic Diliberto were last seen at the Denville Train Station in New Jersey around 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, Montville Township Police Chief Andrew Caggiano told Fox News Digital.

Key Takeaways

What happened at the Denville Train Station?

Montville Township Police are searching for two missing teenagers who disappeared from a New Jersey rail hub on June 26. Chief Andrew Caggiano told Fox News Digital that Brayden Morrissey, 14, Dominic Diliberto, 14, and William Connolly, 17, were last together at the Denville Train Station around 5:30 p.m. local time.

Montville Township, where police issued the alert, is a suburban community in Morris County about 30 miles west of New York City. It sits along Interstate 287, just north of Parsippany and east of Boonton, according to Fox News.

Who are the missing teens?

Police released descriptions to help the public identify the youths. Morrissey, a 14-year-old white male, was last seen wearing a green hoodie, dark sweatpants, and white sneakers, according to the Montville Township Police Department and WRNJ Radio.

Diliberto, also 14 and described as a white male, was wearing all black clothing. Connolly, 17, was last seen in a white sweater with purple and green horizontal stripes and dark sweatpants before officers took him into protective custody.

Where were the teens spotted after leaving New Jersey?

According to Caggiano, the MTA later spotted all three at a train station in Stamford, Connecticut. MTA officers took Connolly into protective custody at that location.

The two 14-year-olds fled when officers moved to place Connolly in custody, Caggiano said. That makes Stamford the last confirmed sighting for Morrissey and Diliberto, who have not been located since.

How can the public help?

Authorities are urging any law enforcement agency or member of the public who makes contact with the boys to call Montville Township immediately. The department's direct line is 973-257-4300, WRNJ Radio reported.

Caggiano told Fox News the boys appear to have left on their own accord, but with two juveniles still unaccounted for across state lines, the case remains active. For more coverage of similar investigations, see our True Crime & Unsolved Mysteries section.

Fox News described the situation as a developing story, and police have not announced additional updates beyond Saturday's statements to the outlet.
