What is Apple TV's Nocturne about?
Nocturne follows former soldier and homicide detective Jonah Lynn, played by Liev Schreiber, after he leaves Philadelphia's dangerous streets for a quieter town in western Pennsylvania. That peace ends when imprisoned serial killer Jurek Walter, portrayed by Stephen Graham, threatens the community and Lynn's family from behind bars.
When one supposed victim turns up alive, investigators race to find another person still missing. Lynn puts his protégée, FBI agent Saga Bauer (Zazie Beetz), undercover to get close to Walter—a psychological duel often compared to The Silence of the Lambs. Readers who follow true crime and unsolved mysteries will know the imprisoned-mastermind setup well.
Why did Lars Kepler's Joona Linna move to Pennsylvania?
Swedish authors Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril publish as Lars Kepler. For television, their Scandinavian setting moves to the United States, and Joona Linna becomes Jonah Lynn. The investigator–FBI agent–serial killer triangle remains, as detailed by Filmstarts.
Schreiber also produces the series. Rowan Joffé and John Hlavin developed it, and Tim Van Patten directed the first two episodes. The ensemble includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, Chrissy Metz, and Poorna Jagannathan. Source reporting also notes the books The Sandman and Lazarus as the narrative base.
When can you watch Nocturne with Liev Schreiber?
Apple TV releases the first two of ten episodes on October 30, 2026, then one new episode each Friday through a December 25 finale. The Kepler novels behind Nocturne have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide, which leaves room for more seasons if the debut connects.
For Liev Schreiber, the role marks his highest-profile series lead since Ray Donovan. Paired with Graham and Beetz, Nocturne aims at viewers who want a credible serial-killer thriller rooted in a proven book franchise rather than a disposable streamer drop.
