Amazon Prime FTC settlement refunds expand to $200

Amazon Prime FTC settlement refunds expand to $200

The Amazon Prime FTC settlement just got bigger: a federal court approved expanded automatic refunds, raising the maximum from $51 to $200. Millions more U.S. Prime customers who used 11–20 benefits in a year start getting payments Oct. 1, 2026—no claim forms required.

Key Takeaways

The Federal Trade Commission said Amazon will accelerate and expand redress under last year’s historic deal resolving allegations that the retailer enrolled millions in Prime without consent and made cancellation hard. That settlement totaled $2.5 billion: up to $1.5 billion for consumers plus a $1 billion civil penalty. For more consumer and breaking coverage, see our Celebrity Breaking News hub.

Who qualifies for an Amazon Prime refund?

Under the revised order, more shoppers now qualify. Earlier rounds covered consumers who used fewer than 10 Prime benefits during a one-year period, with payments capped at $51.

Starting Oct. 1, 2026, Amazon will automatically pay millions of additional consumers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits in a one-year period—people left out of earlier phases. WAFB, citing the FTC, says eligible U.S. customers must have enrolled through a signup process the FTC challenged, or unsuccessfully tried to cancel online, between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, and used no more than 20 Prime benefits in any 12-month period after enrollment.

How much money can customers get?

Eligible refunds for Prime membership fees can total as much as $200 under the revised settlement. That does not mean every Oct. 1 payment will be $200 right away.

If accepted payments fall short of a required threshold by February 2027, Amazon will send an additional automatic payment of up to $149 to consumers who already accepted refunds—bringing the total to $200. Those supplemental payments would start by April 2027 and also require no claims.

As of September 2026, Amazon had already issued more than $845 million in redress. Full details are in the FTC press release.

Do you need to file a claim for the refund?

No. Future payments under the revised order are automatic. Eligible customers do not need to submit claims, fill out forms, or respond to notices. Money may arrive by PayPal, Venmo, or mailed check. Consumers should accept or cash payments within 60 days of the issue date.

Amazon administers the program. The FTC is not contacting people about these refunds. If someone claiming to be from the FTC reaches out, treat it as a likely scam. No one from Amazon will ask for money to process a refund.

“The revised order will ensure more consumers who were harmed by Amazon’s deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices benefit from the FTC’s historic settlement,” said Christopher Mufarrige, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
